The Certificate in Insurance is a core qualification for insurance staff working across all sectors of the industry. The Certificate develops core knowledge and confidence of the key disciplines needed before you focus your subsequent studies and specialize according to your ambitions and career requirements.
It provides grounding in basic insurance principles including the regulatory environment, key disciplines of underwriting and claims, in addition to popular products such as motor, household, healthcare and packaged commercial insurances.
Who it’s for
- Anyone working in specific technical claims handling or underwriting roles within a call or service centre environment.
- Insurance staff employed in support functions such as human resources, marketing, IT and finance, wishing to develop an understanding of the industry in which they work.
- Staff working for an organisation whose primary business is not insurance, but which offers insurance advice and products as part of its overall service to customers.
Recognition of prior learning
Before starting study, check to see whether any of your previous academic qualifications or credits from other professional bodies and institutes can be carried towards completion of the Certificate.
Completion requirements
The Certificate comprises 8 study modules that lays the foundation for core insurance aspects. They must be passed for ward of the certificate.
Assessment method
Certificate level units are assessed by multiple choice question exams (MCQ) except for Business communication and Business Mathematics and Statistics. Other modules combine Diagnostic assessments.
The Diploma in Insurance is a technical and supervisory qualification for insurance staff working across all sectors of the industry, and the logical progression from the Certificate in Insurance.
The Diploma will provide you with a firm understanding of insurance fundamentals and will enable you to build towards advanced technical knowledge, thereby ensuring you have the means to function effectively in a challenging environment.
ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN INSURANCE
Comprises of Seven (7) study modules. Students begin to understand advanced concepts of Underwriting, claims, Insurance investment, general business environment and how students insurance fit in.
The assessment method is mainly diagnostic combining Assignments, Tests, Mock Examination and Final Examination.
It’s an entry point for those with appropriate Diploma or Degree qualification in business and other relevant fields.
The Insurance Practice and Regulation is however compulsory for direct entries while those who at certificate level are not required to study it.
Underwriting Management and Claims Management are options where students decide to take one.
DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE
Who it’s for
- Insurance technicians and those who aspire to be technicians.
- Supervisors, team leaders and those with long-term ambitions of assuming managerial responsibilities.
- Anyone wishing to hold a recognised, respected insurance qualification.
- Insurance staff employed in support functions wishing to develop their knowledge of the business.
- Those wanting to develop their knowledge and understanding as part of a progression towards completion of the Advanced Diploma in Insurance and Chartered status.
Recognition of prior learning
To complete the Diploma in Insurance you must pass all the five study modules.
